I’d also go back in time and add a sun catcher because it’s been bringing me immense joy🩷💛✨
It’s been 4 months since Alice was born and I’ve been thinking about the experience ever since. It was a labor unlike anything I’d experienced before. Hard, beautiful, the perfect end to this journey I’ve been on since my first was born 7.5 years ago.
While I really do feel like I did a good job staying present, if I could go back in time, this is what I would add! 🤍
Breathe - this is it.🧘♀️
Thank - what a miracle to experience this one last time. 🙏
Trust - I know my heart, I know my body, I know my baby. I had the doubt of “am I really in labor?” but deep down I knew the answer before it was obvious. 🤍
What would you do if you got to experience labor all over again?

✨ Move your body gently → Go for a walk outside or hit the yoga mat. I’ve been walking outside nearly every day at 9 am because right now it’s the only way I can get my baby to take a morning nap! She falls asleep and I get the endorphin rush. Win win.
✨ Nourish yourself → you know that saying “nap when the baby naps?” I changed that to “eat when the kids or baby eats.” Breastfeeding takes A LOT of energy and if I don’t remind myself to eat, I feel like garbage. When you go to grab your kids a snack, or the baby starts to nurse, first grab yourself a cheese stick, a handful of almonds, or a meat stick to stay energized.
✨ Stay connected (with others or yourself!) → FaceTime with a friend, journal out your thoughts or feelings in your phone when you’re nap trapped, carve out five minutes to meditate and breathe, read, or listen to a podcast.
I promise doing these simple things will make a world of difference!

The problem ⬇️
When you say this, you’re already setting yourself up for disappointment. Birth IS intense. It’s hard. It’s literally labor. And it requires surrender. Choosing an unmedicated birth isn’t about IF it will get intense—it’s about how you’ll meet that intensity. What tools will you use? Who will you lean on? How will you cope?
The solution ⬇️
If an epidural is your plan, that’s okay—own it! But if an unmedicated birth is your goal, you need to build the right foundation:
✨Your team: Who’s on your birth team matters. Are your provider and support people aligned with your vision? Do they have the tools, encouragement, and patience to support you through an unmedicated birth?
✨Your place: Birth looks different depending on where it happens. Is your location supportive of movement, position changes, and natural coping methods? Or does it lean heavily on interventions?
✨Your tools: Breathwork, movement, hydrotherapy, massage, affirmations—these aren’t “extras,” they’re essentials for navigating intensity.
And remember, flexibility is still a strength. There is nuance in every situation. Sometimes the epidural is the right tool to support a successful vaginal birth. The key is to go in with clarity and preparation, so whatever path your birth takes, you feel supported and empowered in your decisions.🫶✨

Yes, you can birth a big baby without tearing. 🙌
My daughter was 10 lbs and I didn’t need a single stitch. Here’s why:
1️⃣I used movement + upright positions to give her space during labor
2️⃣ I trusted my body’s rhythm instead of forcing pushing - waiting until my body started bearing down vs relying on cervical checks was key👌(ps, I didn’t request a single check throughout my entire labor)
3️⃣ The amount of pressure you feel during this stage can be alarming - I recognized the feeling, and felt the ring of fire. Instead of pushing through that, I paused and waited for another contraction, moving my legs to create more space. This allowed my tissues to stretch s l o w l y.
4️⃣I focused on breathing baby down, not holding my breath. Aka “purple pushing.” It can be effective if you absolutely need to get the baby out fast, but it does come with its own set of drawbacks. (Like pelvic floor trauma and tearing) I also moaned and primally yelled - did you know this can help open up your pelvic floor?
✨ Tearing is common, but it isn’t always inevitable. I am not a first time mom which certainly helps! But these are tried and true tips that can help minimize the likelihood of a large tear.

Birth doesn’t ask for surrender—
it demands it.
An ancient knowing lives within you,
buried beneath years of doubt,
preconceived notions,
and a conditioned disconnection
from mind, body, and soul.
It was never meant to be easy.
Birth will bring you
to the edge of yourself where you must release.
Loosen the grip, let the unraveling happen. Reach, a little farther now. And take back what’s yours.
Your baby awaits on the other side. ✨

2. Wouldn’t have it any other way.

How do you feel when you get the inevitable “you’ve got your hands full!” When out with 2 or more kids? I’ve learned to just laugh about it. 💕

Ever noticed how many moms are walking around with a baby strapped to their chest these days? Baby wearing isn’t just a way to be hands free — it’s biologically supportive!🌱
Wearing your baby …
✨ Regulates baby’s body systems – Being close to your chest helps steady their heart rate, temperature, and breathing
✨Promotes healthy brain development – Constant motion and closeness stimulate their vestibular system and support secure attachment
✨Reduces crying by up to 43% – Studies show worn babies are calmer and spend more time in a quiet, alert state
✨Supports breastfeeding – Proximity boosts oxytocin, making nursing more successful
✨Benefits parents too – Less crying means less stress, and hands-free time helps you meet your own needs and care for siblings
Babywearing truly is a simple practice with lifelong benefits. 🫶

Have you ever looked at a photo or reel about someone’s gigantic freezer stash full of milk and thought, must be nice? It’s not all it’s chalked up to be! It’s an oversupply and comes with all sorts of drawbacks.
I think as parents what we would all love is to produce just the right amount for our babies. 🤍
All feeding journeys come with their unique challenges - under supply, over supply, a baby that won’t latch well, etc. No matter what your journey looks like, the truth is, you’re probably just seeing someone else’s highlight reel on here. 🤷♀️
#breastfeedingmama #oversupply #milkymama #breastfeedingjourney
How many times have we heard “okay looks like you’re 10 cm, time to push now!” Here’s why I hate that:
Rushing into pushing before your baby is ready can mean more tearing, swelling, and a longer recovery. It can also be a ticket to the ✨cascade of interventions✨when hospital staff says that you’ve been pushing for too long.
Instead, give your body time to labor down — letting contractions and gravity move your baby lower naturally before you add effort (and exhaust what’s left of your energy).
How do you know it’s time?
• No epidural: You’ll feel an irresistible urge to push — like your body is doing it for you.
• With epidural: Watch for a deep pressure in your bottom, tailbone, or pelvic floor. This pressure means baby’s head is low enough for effective, gentle pushing.
By waiting for these signals, you protect your muscles, reduce trauma, and make pushing more productive.
✨ Your body’s cues > the hospital clock

The first latch with my girl in honor of World Breastfeeding Week. 🤍
My breastfeeding journeys with my kids have all looked very different. Some have been easier than others, some have ended earlier than I would have liked, one was supplemented with formula, and one is still new.
It’s the easiest and hardest thing I’ve ever done, between all of the milk spilled, leaked, taken in, or given away. I wouldn’t change it for the world. ❤️

Did you know getting those breast-milk poop stains out is as simple as laying clothes in the sun? 🌞
These are my cloth diaper inserts and while usually after washing, they’re sparkling, sometimes they’re left with some really stubborn stains.
Two hours in the summer sun takes the stains right out! 🙌
So next time you go to throw out the outfit your baby exploded in, try sun bleaching it first. 😉

✨Unless medically indicated, your baby knows when to be born 🩷
✨labor has its ebbs and flows, fast times and break times - more often than not your body and baby just need time to do their labor dance (without pitocin) 💃🏻
✨I love evidence based information. I really do. But I also truly believe that your intuition about YOUR baby and YOUR body, should play a role in your decision making.
✨The best way to push is the way that feels most comfortable for you 🙌
✨Sometimes birth requires medical intervention; informed consent is empowering, as is a supportive birth team. You can still have a beautiful birth even when circumstances change 🤍
✨Everyone is different - what works for one mother at 39 weeks won’t for another 💯

Matrescence: the complex process of a woman becoming a mother, encompassing the physical, hormonal, psychological, and social changes that occur during this transition.
2025 Morgan is different than pre-mother 2017 Morgan in so many ways. 🩷
Did you know this is a real thing? If you’re feeling like a radically different person after having kids, it’s probably because you are! Postpartum will highlight that for you in so many ways. ✨
How are some ways you’ve changed post-baby / babies?
Back in 2017 I was climbing the corporate ladder, thought medicine was the solution to everything, and was drinking what my husband lovingly referred to as “Morgan sized glasses of wine” 😂
#motherhoodchangesyou #matrescence #postpartum #postpartumdoula #momoffive
1) If the 5,5,5 rule (5 days in the bed, 5 days on the bed, 5 days around the bed) feels unattainable, at least do the first 5. Your body needs the rest and recovery! And you and your baby need to bond and regulate together 🩷
I spent the first five days of this postpartum binging Netflix, sleeping and snuggling my baby, and breastfeeding around the clock while my husband brought me snacks, meals, and refilled my water. I know that’s not always attainable with partner work schedules and additional kids, so just do what you can! (Or ask for help from family and friends, or hire a postpartum doula) Also - drink lots of water and prioritize eating like you’re still pregnant. Hearty, nutritious meals will help you recover!
2) Discuss postpartum expectations with your partner ahead of time. If you know that noise and clutter stresses you out, make a plan to address this ahead of time. Say “xyz is what I need to feel supported while I’m caring for the baby.” Or something along those lines!
3) Wear your baby. Seriously, this is a game changer in the first few months of postpartum. Find a wrap or carrier that feels comfortable and marvel at being able to use two hands again while keeping your baby close (which is what they want!)
Not your first go around? What would you add for a new mom (or dad!) planning for postpartum?

✨The home birth story of Alice Grace - part 3✨
Meant to post this yesterday but #newbornlife !
I think one of the best perks of having a home birth is being able to cozy up on your own couch or move over to your own bed after your baby arrives. It was such a dream ✨
I had so much autonomy and to labor within the comfort of my own home without any interventions or car rides for my last birth experience was truly something special.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - birth is unpredictable. It will take you to the edge of yourself and back again. It will test your limits. Sometimes your plans will change - regardless of where you choose to give birth - but when you feel loved, supported, and listened to, it makes all the difference. 💛
Thank you to my dream team for doing just that! @imprintbirthdoula @gennisi.co @jacintalagosbirthservices

✨Part two of the homebirth story of Alice Grace ✨
Active labor was INTENSE. It was unlike my previous two unmedicated labors (longer but still technically short!), and required a lot of movement. I rocked back and forth on the ball a lot, leaned back to try and tuck her head under a lot, windshield wiper-ed my legs a lot.
This birth really had me digging deep, and I needed to talk myself through accepting the intensity quite often. I needed reassurance from my husband, my mom, my doula, and my midwife that all was unfolding as it should.
I got frustrated more than once, and reminded myself to let my intuition and baby guide the way.
Through it all though, I was SO incredibly happy to be experiencing labor and the process as it unfolded. I’d been waiting to meet this girl my entire life, and the moment was here. ❤️
Highlights of active labor/transition/birth:
Josh reading my affirmation cards to me, my doula’s expert hip squeezes, my water breaking on the toilet (SO much relief), my mom cooling me off with the cold wash cloth before it got ✨really✨ intense, my doula and then my mom and midwife rubbing my hands, the sweet relief of finally pushing out this 10.5 lb baby (without tearing!). 🤍🤍
Part three (all about the aftermath!) coming tomorrow. ✨

✨Part one of Alice Grace’s home birth story✨
Highlights - being unconvinced I was in labor but my oldest son knowing intuitively that his sister was coming, quickly accepting and praying it was actually real labor, telling myself this was truly happening and my daughter was coming during the day in her own perfect timing at 40 weeks and 2 days. 🌻
The build up felt like it happened slowly and beautifully, but fast enough that I wasn’t exhausted by it (because it was only about 4 hours long).
It was the early labor of my dreams! ✨

Before I share my full birth story, I have to share the part about my doula. 🩷
I still remember the first time we connected - I was planning my first unmedicated birth (our third baby) and originally she wasn’t available. Luckily her schedule changed and I was so excited when she reached back out and let me know she had availability for my birth. Thank God, because after that first time with her sister-like support, I couldn’t imagine giving birth without her by my side.
Every birth I’ve had with Bri has been uniquely different, but this one felt especially meaningful. It took lots of reassurance - even in the days leading up to labor - grit, and strength that required me to dig deep to find. She was by my side encouraging me every step of the way - reminding me to stay in the moment and enjoy the end of this era, supporting me physically through labor, and holding space for all the moments in between. 💖
Over the years, I’ve watched in awe as her strength and passion shine through in every role she’s taken on—doula, midwife-in-training, mama, and friend. She’s been an inspiration as I navigate my own path as a doula - hoping to give others the same care and compassion I’ve received from her. I feel so lucky to have her in my life. ✨
Thank you for being part of my story all these years, @imprintbirthdoula. It’s been an honor to be supported by you! Love you, friend. 🩷

My 40 week reminder to myself and all of the other women out there waiting on their babies! 🤍✨
Your “due date” is actually just a guess! So many factors can affect when your baby will be born such as …
• Genetics
• Length of your menstrual cycle
• Date of ovulation
• Maternal age
• Medical conditions
And more!
Plus, did you know the average gestational age of a baby born to a first time mom is actually around 40 weeks and 5 days?
And for second time moms, it’s 40 weeks and 3 days?
Take it from a mom whose babies have been born anywhere between 38 and 40+ weeks - your baby is so wise and knows the right time to be born! And “due dates” don’t mean much in the grand scheme of things.
But also, solidarity mama, the end of pregnancy is a mind job and the last few weeks can feel like 9 months all at once. I promise we’ll meet our babies soon. 🥰

Curb walking alternative! Great for if you’re stuck inside on a rainy day, if you’re in a neighborhood without curbs, or if you want to incorporate some balancing moves into your late third trimester workout routine.
This movement helps:
✨change the shape of your pelvis, encouraging baby to descend
✨can correct a baby’s positioning
✨put gentle pressure on the cervix, helping you prepare for labor
If using a block (or a stack of books if you want to get creative!), do 10 steps on each side for at least 10 minutes. Or do 30 if you’re incorporating into the miles circuit!
Have you tried this before?

Very non-aesthetic photo of my 38 week bump 🤍
Zoning in on the end of pregnancy and feeling very grateful that she seems to be lower, allowing me to breathe & lessening the horrible heartburn I’ve had for weeks. ❤️🔥
The lower back pain is real (chiropractic care is a life saver!), the emotions are high (I cried during an episode of Bluey today), and the Braxton hicks are constant. Even my maternity clothes are working HARD.
Can’t wait to meet this girl so soon. 🤍🤍🤍
PS - I’m about to be a 5th time mom and I’m a doula and I’m still googling “does back pain mean labor is impending” and “statistical likelihood of giving birth this weekend.” 😂 So do as I say and not as I do! This baby will come when she’s ready 💕

An exercise ball is (IMO) one of the most underrated tools you can use in labor.
Start practicing these moves around 36/37 weeks to help with baby’s position!
Each one helps create space in your pelvis, encouraging baby’s rotation and descent.
✨Pelvic circles
✨Pelvic tilts
✨Hands and knees - turn your knees inward if baby is in a + station (head is LOW in your pelvis) to help open your pelvic outlet
✨Supported lunges - these are a super move in labor. Stay in this position for 3 contractions on each side.

If I wouldn’t have had an adverse reaction from my epidural with my second, I wouldn’t have chosen an unmedicated birth with my third.
If I hadn’t had a precipitous labor with my third (plus a horrible hospital stay but I digress), and the OB was in the room, I wouldn’t haven’t have discovered my own power. I’d still be handing it over to him.
I wouldn’t have fallen in love with physiological birth, I wouldn’t have become a doula, I wouldn’t have left the system to birth with midwives at a birth center, and (soon) at home 🤍
What was your butterfly effect moment in birth?
#unmedicatedbirth #physiologicalbirth #doulalife #birthstory #precipitouslabor
It’s all about gravity and optimal positioning! ✨
While I do believe that sometimes your baby’s position is intuitive (for example, they’re posterior because that’s how they’re going to best find their way out through your pelvis), we can certainly influence their positioning in pregnancy.
Think of your belly like a hammock- the “ideal” position for your baby is going to be with their head and body facing your back, with their back cradled against your belly.
This is called occiput anterior. If you can feel their butt and feet by your ribs, this is likely the position they’re in! 🙌
When you’re lounging and leaning back on the couch, you’re creating that hammock space facing the other way. Depending on how far along you are in pregnancy, this can encourage your baby to settle into a posterior position (their head and body facing your belly button), potentially setting the scene for a longer labor.
So do yourself a favor and sit upright on a birth ball (great for opening your pelvis, too!) or lay on your side with your belly angled forward to encourage a good position. 👍

Earlier this month, this March baby decided April was better suited to her liking. 🤍
After going to 42 weeks, it was time for this baby to make her way earthside with a little bit of help.
Labor could not have gone smoother, and mom showed all of her strength during an extended pushing stage. After going straight to mom’s chest, baby was given some help to transition and soon enough, was brought back and latched like a pro.
I’ve said this time and time again - birth doesn’t always go as we’ve planned or envisioned. Life is messy and raw and will challenge us to the depths of our souls. It’s through the difficulties we find our strength and our power and come out as mothers.
So honored to be a part of this family’s birth team - you are stronger than you know! ✨🩷

A letter to my daughter 🌻
I always knew you’d make me wait. You’ve been with me my whole life and yet, you knew patience would be required of me to finally join our family.
It was the moment I thought to myself, “I guess I’ll meet her in the next life” that you told me I wouldn’t have to wait that long.
In retrospect, it all makes sense now. I wouldn’t be where I am without your brothers. You needed this version of me; this version of our family. You knew all along.✨
Patience, surrender, trust, and grace - and now I am blessed to feel your kicks and rolls every day before you make your entrance into this world.

Who else has said to themselves “that’s enough internet for me today!” after reading comments or seeing yet another negative post?🙋🏻♀️
Reminders I’ve been giving myself at 33 weeks pregnant (that you should, too!)
✨Other people’s preferences have no bearing on my own. You want to labor alone in the dark with candles? Perfect. You want to labor surrounded by an entire support team, your sister, your best friend, and your partner? Do it.
✨Negative stories have no place in my brain regarding MY birth. Water birth, hospital birth, unassisted birth, induction… I’ve seen a negative post about them ALL. Now is not the time to flood yourself with negative stories, fear mongering, and what-if’s. Be informed, follow your intuition, talk to your care team. Allow yourself to dream of YOUR most beautiful birth, no matter what that looks like for you.
✨Let go of perfection - there’s no one way to do things in pregnancy and this applies to motherhood, too. Take care of your body, take care of your mind, and don’t beat yourself up for a bad day. 🩷

I was 40 weeks and 3 days in this picture, planning my first unmedicated birth, and convinced this baby would never come out. My first two were 38+3 and 39 so you can see how I would be thrown for a loop when this baby went past that!
I had several evenings of prodromal labor, and by the time labor had officially started, I skipped straight to active labor + transition.
My water broke once we got to the hospital and less than 45 minutes later, the fetal ejection reflex kicked in and the nurse caught our baby. My entire labor from start to finish was 2 hours and the OB made it just in time to assist with my placenta. 😅
The birth of our 3rd baby changed everything about how I view birth, the medical system, and my body’s abilities🩷

When you discover I’m a trust-birth-and-follow-intuition doula. ✨🤍
But I’m also not an all-or-nothing, avoid-the-system-or-bust kind of doula.
What’s most important to me is that YOU feel supported, heard, and cared for during your pregnancy, labor, and postpartum wherever you choose to birth.
Do I have preferences when it comes to birth? Or course! Will I project those onto you? Never 🩷
Sound like you? Let’s connect! I have limited spots left for home and hospital doula support this fall/winter and then 2025 is booked!

Let’s talk about adrenaline!
For a solid 2 years I went on thinking I forgot to breathe or started hyperventilating when I had my 3rd baby before the fetal ejection reflex kicked in because my vision went a little hazy.
Fast forward to the birth of my fourth, I remember the shift in intensity when I went from transition to fully dilated and experienced the same thing before having this sudden clarity. This time, I knew I was breathing and staying in a calm state so what in the world was that?!
✨Adrenaline!✨
While it’s best to keep calm throughout labor because adrenaline too early in the birthing process can negatively impact your flow/block oxytocin, adrenaline when your baby is ready to be born is a good thing! It can give you the energy you need to push them out efficiently and then enjoy that first look at your newborn.
So my question is, did you experience this in labor? Do you remember what that physiological response was like for you?
Tell me in the comments!
#unmedicatedbirth #physiologicalbirth #birthisnormal #adrenalinerush #birthdoulas #homebirthmama #birthcenter
1. Take a birthing class outside of the hospital - it’s great to learn about interventions, but you would have benefitted from learning more about physiological birth and the whole birthing process. Especially when your epidural started wearing off and you felt pushy and had no idea what the hell was happening.
2. That visualizing yourself going down a spiral staircase thing you did during your contractions while you were in the shower before leaving for the hospital? You’ll remember that forever and be so proud of yourself.
3. You don’t need the episiotomy after pushing for just 30 minutes, you just need a little more time or a change in position.
4. You’ll both get more sleep if you just hold him and sleep with him safely on your chest. 🤍
5. You’re not bad at breastfeeding, but you’d probably both benefit from seeing a lactation consultant.
6. You’re doing an amazing job feeding on demand and you don’t actually need that app to track his feeds/poops/pees.
7. You will fall in love with motherhood more than you thought possible 🩵
Happy birthday to my biggest little love. I cannot believe you’re SEVEN! 🎉

Nearly 2 weeks ago, this second time mom had her fast, redemptive birth experience that she had been envisioning for months. 🩵
We had just met a few days prior for an end of pregnancy yoga session where we practiced squatting and chatted about how amazing women are that give birth standing up. We talked about the possibility of her water breaking as the first sign of labor, and how that wasn’t totally likely but if it did happen, usually labor starts soon after.
Little did we know, the details of that conversation would come to fruition, when her baby decided to make his way quickly into the world - the first sign that he was on his way being a broken bag of waters.
Just 5 hours later, standing over the edge of her hospital bed with her husband’s hand lovingly placed on her head, she powerfully birthed her baby upright with the midwife there to catch him. 💪✨
I’m so honored to have been a part of your birth team @rachel.c.hill - it was a joy to witness the love and excitement between you both! 🥰

I don’t know about you, but this Wisconsin winter has been HARSH on my skin. Combined with all the stretching my belly has been doing to accommodate my growing baby, my skin has been feeling super dry and itchy.
To fix this, I whipped together an easy belly oil that I’ve been applying daily. At less than 2% dilution, you can mix up the oils you use, but I love this combo of lavender and frankincense.
✨Start with a 2 ounce amber dropper bottle
✨Add 10 drops of lavender oil (known for its anti-inflammatory properties!) to help
- Sooth skin irritation and promote healing
- Reduce stress and anxiety
✨10 drops of frankincense oil to
- help improve skin elasticity
- promote a sense of tranquility and relaxation
-reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks (take this part with a grain of salt - although I will say this is my fifth baby and the first time I have yet to see a stretch mark!)
✨Then fill the bottle with jojoba oil which
- deeply moisturizes and absorbs easily into the skin
- is rich in vitamins and minerals to nourish both mom and baby
- balances skin’s oil production, perfect for all skin types
Try it out and let me know your thoughts! 💭

1. I don’t think I’ll ever feel done with pregnancy and newborns and this stage of my life. I remember dreaming about being married and pregnant since I was little and now that my pregnancy chapter is coming to a close, I feel a little unmoored. Could we have another? Sure, I’m 31. But I finally feel like no one is missing, so I know it’s the right time to close this chapter.
2. As a doula, I want people to understand from the start what it took me several babies to learn about physiological birth, autonomy, + trusting your instincts, and I have to remind myself all the time that each person has their own unique journey, just as I did.
3. I’ve lost two babies in the first trimester, and I get what I call the “six week scaries” every time I’m pregnant. For whatever reason, both of those babies stopped growing in their 6th week, but I was 8 weeks along and 10 weeks along when the losses were confirmed. When I get a consult request for a mom in the first trimester, I say a prayer for her every time and have to remember that 75% of pregnancies DON’T end in loss.
4. Gender disappointment is a real and valid emotion, but our souls and their souls choose each other for a reason, timing is everything, and God knows best. At this point, I’m so rooted in my identity as a boy mom, I don’t know what to expect as a mom to a little girl. But I can’t wait to learn 🤍
5. I’ve been battling some fear around childbirth and birthing at home based on the statistics of being a “grand multip” (there’s a small, small increased risk of pp hemorrhage and I have extremely fast labors now, which comes with its own set of risks). Oh and my baby is measuring a week ahead and my fourth was a 9.5 lb baby so there’s that 😂… But I also know that fear is natural, I have a solid and competent care team, and trust my gut when it tells me that birthing at home is the right decision for me. 🫶
Did any of these “confessions” surprise you?

✨ 3 Yoga Poses to Support Your Second Trimester ✨
As your body changes, gentle movement can bring comfort, create space, + help you connect to your growing baby. These are the poses I’m incorporating to my second trimester practice:
🤍 Calf Stretch — Helps relieve leg tension and prep for those middle-of-the-night cramps
🤍 Deep Squat with a Block — Opens hips + supports pelvic alignment
🤍 Extended Puppy Pose — Eases back tension + encourages baby into an optimal position
Which pose is your favorite right now? Let me know below! ⬇️

Super easy snack idea for little ones - save this for later!
This works perfectly for a quick protein pick me up in pregnancy and postpartum, too!
Homemade parfaits 🩷
-crush up graham crackers (I stuck mine in a freezer bag and used a rolling pin) and add to a small glass jar
-layer with your favorite Greek yogurt
-add berries on top (I used frozen organic berries so they would thaw by the time my kids were ready to eat!)
-feel fancy & enjoy!
Mix a protein powder in with your Greek yogurt for an extra dose of protein!

Been thinking about this a lot lately - how society treats women as incapable of handling the pain of childbirth, rather than as strong, capable human beings that can absolutely bring life into this world in the most transcendent way possible.
When I told family I was planning an unmedicated birth for my third, the first question they asked was why would I ever do that? I told them it was because I had a negative reaction (I experienced nerve pain and numbness off and on for a year following my second epidural), but it was so much more than that. Little did I know at the time that choosing an unmedicated birth would change everything.
Now, this isn’t a conversation to debate when an epidural may become necessary or why a woman may choose to experience birth with one - the key is in the choice, not the coercion to precondition her than childbirth cannot or should not be experienced without one. (As we see OFTEN in the media, from the hospitals and OBs we trust, as commentary from our friends and family)
I also hold space for those women who couldn’t experience unmedicated childbirth because of an emergency situation or other factor - this conversation is not about that. ❤️ It’s about how we’re brought up from a young age that the pain of childbirth is something to fear.
What are your thoughts?

That look of love and awe as you meet each other as new parents! 🤍
In the final weeks of January, this first time mom was hit with a few medical curve balls and her dreams of starting labor on her own came to a close. With a quick mindset adjustment, she went into a gentle (Pitocin free!) induction with positivity and excitement to meet her daughter.
My favorite part of her labor was when she looked at her team and said “I’m really having the best experience!” As a doula, those words are music to my ears! 💕
From the amazing support of her husband to the rockstar DO who was happy to catch her baby in whatever position she wanted to birth in, this labor was filled with autonomy, love, trust, and just a touch of medicine when it was needed.
It was an honor and a joy to witness! ✨Thank you for including me on your team! 🩷 @beccasugden

Throwback to spring 2023 and my belly with W 🥰
When I was pregnant with my first, my mom told me if I was going to do anything to prepare for labor, it was to learn how to manage my mind. ✨
After a traumatic birth with her second, my mom was determined to have a better experience with her third. She discovered hypnobirthing and had the most calming, in control birth as a result. 🩵 It’s because of her that one of the first books I read when I was pregnant was The Calm Birth Method by Suzy Ashworth & Liz Stanford, which emphasizes mindfulness and breathwork during pregnancy and labor. It set the tone for how I’ve prepared for each birth going forward!
If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that I believe mindset is everything. It’s truly the only thing we CAN control during birth, which is why I love to focus on breathwork and always ask my clients what they are doing to prepare mentally for birth. Because it IS intense and oftentimes, your mind will give up far before your body does.
Want to practice more of that in pregnancy? I offer one-on-one yoga sessions where we will focus on poses chosen to fit your pregnancy needs, breath work that you can put in your tool box for labor, and a nourishing tea after our session.

I was driving home from a play date this morning after what truly started as a horrible day.
Meltdowns over a lost Valentine’s bracelet from my five year old, being called stupid in front of his Christian Preschool’s teachers by my three year old because I told him it was time to head out (mortifying), fits from my one year old because another mom thought it was a great idea to feed her kids donuts in front of every other child at the public play space (the pretzel sticks I brought just did not compare to “cookies”) … and a thought popped in my head.
Just because it’s hard, doesn’t mean it’s not beautiful.
My house is LOUD filled with these little boys who are learning patience, kindness, and empathy (as I work on my own). It’s chaotic and physical, overstimulating and constantly emotional. It’s a dance of needs and wants and so. much. boy. energy.
And just like labor and birth, it is HARD.
Mothering 4 rambunctious boys 6 and under is HARD. But it is so damn beautiful.
Especially now that I got my 3 year old to take a rare nap. 🙃🩷

My take as a loss mom on this trend. 🤍
My journey to motherhood started out different than most, but at the core of everything, it’s the reason I’m on this very path.

Save this post for later or send it to your birth partner! 🤍
1. Freedom of movement important? Desiring no augmentation? Delayed cord clamping essential? Mom is going to be busy doing her labor dance, so as the birth partner, your job is to remind her medical team of her preferences. Don’t forget to use your BRAIN when an intervention is presented! (What are the benefits, risks, alternatives, what does my intuition tell me, what happens if we wait or do nothing?)
2. Protect her peace - dim those lights, remind staff to speak after a contraction (not during), and keep voices down
3. Make sure she’s drinking water (ideally filled with electrolytes!) and remember to offer snacks. Something light like peanut butter for protein, fruit, or honey sticks are great for when labor is getting more intense. And don’t forget to encourage her to pee! An empty bladder makes more space for baby to descend.

Have you heard of @bupsy.co yet?!
I tried out their cooling maternity pillow and it truly has become a part of my nightly routine.
It supports my bump and my back without taking up half my bed like a regular u-shaped maternity pillow, and I don’t wake up in a sweat with it, either. IYKYK #pregnancyhormones
My husband normally counts down the months until he can get the dreaded giant pillow off our bed, but I haven’t heard one complaint with the Bupsy. 😅

On a chilly and sunny Sunday morning in January, a new life made his way quickly into the world, proving to this mama that she is strong beyond measure and that dreams and prayers are answered in the best of ways. 🤍
When birth is undisturbed, there’s a certain magic that fills the room in the fleeting minutes before the baby is born. Time slows down and speeds up at the same time. There’s no rush as mom and baby work together, no hands, except for her husband’s anxiously awaiting the moment he can catch his son.
It’s beautiful, spiritual; the opening of a portal, the thinning of a veil. It’s the moment between maiden and mother. It’s just as birth should be - and a complete honor to witness. Just look at the joy! 🩶

I talk all the time about how to have a mindful pregnancy and postpartum, and journaling about your experience is one of the easiest ways to cultivate mindfulness. ✨
In the fourth trimester, when emotions and hormones are running high, you’re learning your new baby (and vice versa), shifting into new family dynamics, and processing this brand new version of yourself, journaling can be a lifeline!
Some of the benefits include:
📝 Emotional Release: Helps process the whirlwind of feelings
💖 Cherishing Moments: Captures those precious early days with your little one
🌱 Self-Reflection: Encourages personal growth amidst the chaos
🤝 Connection: Strengthens bonds with your baby and yourself
🙏 Gratitude Practice: Shifts focus to the positives, even on tough days
Thank you so much @empowherdoulacare for the Journal! I’m so excited to fill it out once my littlest is here. 💕

As this chapter of my life closes, one that has brought so much joy, self discovery, growth, and loss, this much is true: I’m going to romanticize the hell out of it. 🌻
In this body I have housed life and death.
I have grown and shrunk; nourished another body as I have depleted (and re-nourished) my own.
I have been the victim and the hero of my own birth stories.
I have been so incredibly angry at God, and so utterly in awe of the miraculous gifts He has given.
I have lost and discovered myself over, and over, and over, and over again.
I have discovered the complete beauty of pregnancy and birth, in all of its forms, but especially in the form of undisturbed, supported, and calm.
Pregnancy and birth is sacred, spiritual, and transcendent. After nearly 7 years of motherhood, it’s of this I am sure. 🤍
Feeling the same way? Let’s connect ✨

Not sure what to eat for breakfast? Whether you’re pregnant or postpartum, this is a good place to start!
🍳Eggs - eat 2-3 eggs from pasture-raised chickens for the most nutritional punch. A pregnancy and postpartum superfood, eggs are rich choline, omega-3s, fat, and protein. All things needed for your baby’s brain development and a healthy neural tube
🥑 Avocados- packed with healthy fats, folate, and potassium- great for maintaining good blood pressure
🍞Whole grain toast - complex carbs for building a healthy baby and maintaining energy, fiber for aiding digestion, iron for fetal growth and preventing anemia
🍊 Orange Juice - vitamin C helps boost the immune system and aids absorption of iron. Calcium fortified orange juice helps build strong bones, but you can swap this drink for a tall glass of milk to pack more of a punch!
For even more protein and iron, add in turkey sausage or another animal based food!
#pregnancynutrition #postpartumnutrition #mindfulpregnancy #prenatalbreakfast #postpartumwellness #doulatips
Do you hear the sounds of labor in the background? ✨ Low tones are the way to go!
Remember these must haves for your labor environment and have your partner or doula help set the scene!
😌Calm & quiet - instruct everyone to speak with quiet voices and hold questions until after a contraction is over. Opt for intermittent monitoring if you’re low risk, and turn off/down the beeping noises on the machines. Listen to calming spa music, hypnobirthing tracks, or a coffee shop playlist 🎶
👩⚕️limit staff - you don’t need to have students or interns in the room if you don’t want them. Ask your nurses to limit their visits for necessary vital checks only.
🕯️ Dim those lights! Hospital lighting is abrasive and not necessary when you’re laboring. Turn them off or dim them and bring soft lighting such as fairy lights, a ceiling projector, or battery operated candles

That moment when everything you’ve been planning for and dreaming of finally comes to fruition ✨🤍
After an initial due date that was pushed back and another 41 weeks of pregnancy, this strong mama was ready to meet her baby.
Opting for an induction, she did everything possible to facilitate the flow of labor once it started. Advocating for herself at every turn while her husband and I did everything to keep her environment calm, quiet, and dark, her medical team was supportive of her wishes and kind throughout her labor.
I knew her baby was almost here when she said “I can’t do this anymore” #iykyk
In a pushing stage that lasted less than 10 minutes, suddenly her baby was here! Dad announced that it was a boy, and baby was placed immediately on her chest. Her medical team was quick to give her time and space to bond with her new baby, just as it should be! ✨
Congratulations @martinkatie0, it was a joy to be a part of your team! 🩵🩵

My thoughts- the hospital pain scale isn’t a good scale for gauging whether or not medication should be administered or offered for a laboring woman that has specified she wants an unmedicated birth. It should be based on how she feels she’s coping.
What do you think?
Also ignore spelling in my captions. 🙄 It’s Pitocin and Cytotec, Instagram.

Becoming a new parent is hard. It’s a soul changing transition that we were never meant to do alone. 🤍

Fully influenced by my cousins on this one and I regret not adding more pieces to my wardrobe earlier. @aerie did you know your clothes are also perfect for maternity wear?
But seriously, my advice for any pregnant mama looking for a wardrobe upgrade without breaking the bank: invest in a few maternity staples - think tanks, yoga pants, a pair of shorts or jeans, nursing bras (they have a more expansive clasp in the back which are great for an expanding rib cage during pregnancy), and a few long sleeved or short sleeved shirts. Then, supplement with some oversized pieces (super in style right now anyway!) that work with your bump and postpartum. Sweatshirts, cardigans, flowy dresses, and oversized sweaters will do the trick!
PS this is the Aerie Getaway Quarter Snap Sweatshirt in size small ☺️

Although there is always a time and place for well meaning advice, friends/family/or people you follow that challenge your ideals, and difficult birth stories, pregnancy is not the best time for that.
Pregnancy is a time of heightened awareness and sensitivity. It carries its own joys, anxieties, and complex emotions - you don’t need to absorb any of that from others! 🩷
Protect your peace in this season by
1️⃣ Listening to inspiring birth stories
2️⃣ Avoiding doom scrolling (cultivate a positive feed!)
3️⃣ Unfollow what doesn’t serve you
4️⃣ Surround yourself with love and support
5️⃣ Breathe deeply and relax - join a prenatal yoga class or use 5-10 minutes a night to meditate or pray while breathing.
You’ll feel happier and more connected to your intuition and baby, I promise!

We spend the majority of our pregnancies prepping for labor and birth, but what often gets overlooked until you’re thrust into it is the postpartum period.
While prepping the nursery is certainly a rite of passage, make a point to plan for what you and your baby will truly need during the 4th trimester.
Support. 🤍
Prep freezer meals in the last few weeks, make a plan for meal trains, reach out to the breastfeeding support groups, set up an appointment with a lactation consultant ahead of time, make a plan with your partner about sleep, cleaning, and cooking, hire the postpartum doula.
We were never meant to do this alone 💕

Happy New Year! 🎉
This felt like a good time to post my availability for the year 🤍
I’m booked through April and starting in May will be on maternity leave through the summer. 🥰
As those fall due dates start rolling in, don’t hesitate to reach out for a consultation! As of now, my plan is to take one birth client, and one postpartum client for the remainder of 2025.
I will however, be open for doula chats (one on ones to pick my brain, create a birth plan, etc!) and private prenatal yoga sessions both in person (local) and virtual🧘♀️ for more info on my 1-1s, head over to my website www.milliebirthandwellness.com 🌻

I wrapped up my final birth of the year a little over two weeks ago, and what a year it has been! 🎉
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to each and every one of these families that invited me into their homes, hearts, and birth spaces. 🤍
What surprised you most about these stats? For me it was the range in length of labor👀
Also! I grouped together cervidil and pitocin in the augmented labor group. And none of the transfers from birth center/home to the hospital were emergent. 🙏
Here’s to another year of supporting families in 2025! 💖 I’ll be on maternity leave starting in May, and have just 4 spots left for the year (September, October, November, and December). I can’t wait to see what the new year brings! ✨

If I’ve learned anything in the past year, it’s that birth will test our limits. It’s a dance not just between mother and her body, but mother and baby. And it’s true what they say; some of the best things in life take time. 🩷✨
This home birth mama worked hard with her baby and her body for days, trying every movement, position change, and relaxation technique, showing us all that mindset absolutely is everything.
When the time came to transfer to give her body a break, she and her husband did so with so much grace and acceptance of God’s plan (and her baby’s plan - who had decided posterior was absolutely the best way out!). I will forever be in awe of her strength and determination as she embraced the process of bringing her baby boy into the world. 🩵
Congratulations to @rach.perik and her beautiful new family! It was an honor to be a part of the journey 🥰

✨Simple and mindful ways to connect with your baby in the womb✨
🌻Talk and Sing: Speak or sing to your baby. Your voice will be familiar to them once they’re born🩶
🎶Listen to Music: Play soft, calming music or songs that you love. Your baby can hear sounds from the outside world, and music can foster a sense of calm and joy 🥰
🙏Daily Meditation: Set aside time each day to meditate or pray. Focus on your breath and visualize your baby. Imagine sending love and positive energy to them
🌞Nature Walks: Spend time outdoors, walking in nature. Focus on the sights, sounds, and sensations around you, and take moments to connect with your baby as you enjoy the world together
🫶Gentle Touch: Place your hands on your belly and gently massage your bump. This can create a soothing sensation for both you and your baby🩷
📝Journaling: Keep a journal of your thoughts and feelings during your pregnancy. Write letters to your baby, sharing your hopes and dreams, which can help strengthen your bond
🧘♀️Practice Yoga: Engage in prenatal yoga to help relax your body and mind. Focus on poses that encourage connection with your baby, and use this time for introspection.

Not too long ago I read a book on Ayurvedic practices for pregnant women and the whole “warm socks, warm uterus” thing stuck with me. I’m usually a barefoot person, but let me tell you, this baby is sucking up all of my heat. Socks are a necessity!
According to Chinese medicine, keeping your feet warm is vital for reproductive health! 🌻
Here’s why:
1. Boosts Circulation: Warm socks improve blood flow to the uterus, nourishing both you and your baby. ❤️
2. Balances Energy: Warmth supports the Kapha dosha, promoting stability and growth during pregnancy.✨
3. Reduces Stress: Staying warm helps calm the mind, making for a more relaxed pregnancy journey. 🧘♀️
4. Enhances Comfort: A warm body means better sleep and overall comfort!
So, slip on those warm socks and nurture your body for a healthy pregnancy! 🧦✨

The trickiest thing about birth is when we develop a trust in our bodies to birth our babies naturally and then we need or seek help along the way.
But that’s the thing, receiving help in any form doesn’t mean you aren’t or weren’t capable. It doesn’t mean your body failed - it means you needed support in a different way. Whether that was mentally, physically, or emergently. And that’s okay. 🌻
You are still strong. Your body is still made to birth your baby (in whatever form that may be) ✨
If you’re struggling with your birth experience, don’t suffer in silence. Reach out for help, talk to a friend, find a community and share your story. Your experience matters. 🤍

Movement and breathwork is the best way to work through a contraction. 🍃✨
When you’re preparing for the day your baby is ready to make their way Earthside, make sure to add this practice into your routine! 🩷
Breathe in through your nose for a count of 4
Breathe out through your mouth slowly for a count of 7
Repeat for 3 to 5 minutes daily ✨
This is a great way to calm your nervous system and will benefit you in postpartum, too!

I feel like in motherhood when you’ve been through birth more than once, the journey becomes more about connection, intuition, and strength, rather than learning and understanding different movements, labor progress, and interventions.
Personally, this looks like leaning more into my spirituality, connecting with God, and connecting with the little soul inside. Taking time to restore my mind and body and remembering to BREATHE. 🧘♀️🍃
Pregnancy is such a good time to go inward and as I ease my way further into my second trimester, I find myself doing this more and more. ✨🩷

Starting to feel those period like cramps?
🛑STOP🛑
Don’t head to the hospital or call your midwife team over yet.
Don’t start curb walking and exhausting yourself.
✨SLEEP✨ instead!
Ignore the sensations until you can’t. Stay in your calm and cozy environment. EAT! 🩵
When you’re in active labor, you’ll be happy you did!

Hey pregnant mama! Having hip pain? Save this post for later! 🧘♀️🤸
Poses to add into your routine when hip pain is getting to you:
PS❗️❗️🛑 avoid these poses if they increase your pain or if you have pubic symphysis pain.
✨Deep squat with block support - soften all of your muscles in this pose and try to stay in it for one minute. This pose opens up your hips and groin, releases your back muscles, and gently tones your abs
✨Fire log pose - stack one leg on top of the other with your ankle resting just beyond your knee. This pose gently stretches your glutes and feels reeeally nice on your hips
✨Pigeon pose - make sure you use a block, bolster, or a pillow for this pose and try to maintain it for 5-10 breaths. This pose releases tightness in your hips, glutes, groin and psoas muscles. Can help alleviate sciatica, too!

✨Just a friendly reminder: Your first birth is not a trial run! 🌻
You don’t have to wait to see how things go in the hospital with your first baby to consider a home birth with your next if home is where you initially feel called.
Every birth experience is unique, and it’s all about what feels right for you and your family, even if it’s not what is conventional 💕
